Marvel Rivals may have been showing Overwatch 2 up the past few months with all their hero reveals, and now it looks like Blizzard is playing catch-up.
OW2 has just launched Season 15, and though she hasn’t been made available yet, fans got a look at incoming hero Freja.
Freja Coming to Overwatch 2
As officially revealed during the Season 15 launch, Freja is an incoming damage hero who has a knack for putting herself above the battlefield so she can have a good look at the action below. Check out the official reveal video:
“Freya hails from the land of Demark where the winters are cold, and apparently the bounty hunters are even colder,” says Senior Narrative Designer Jude Stacey, “Freya was once Overwatch’s most renowned search and rescue operative dedicated to saving lives, but when Overwatch disbanded, she put her skills towards a new purpose—bounty hunting. Now she’ll hunt down any target for the right price.”
When it comes to skill ceilings, it’s said that Freja is going to be one of the more difficult heroes to master, and anyone looking to be great with her needs to be an expert in aiming long-range. Plus, they also have to know how to make good use of her mobility and ability to keep herself above everyone else on the battlefield.
Freja’s Abilities
The key items in Freja’s kit are her crossbow and cape. The crossbow allows for some long-range alternating fire, and the cape is supposed to help her float around the map and give her some great airtime.
For short-range attacks, her crossbow allows for some quick burst fire, going long-range could deal more damage but it's greatly dependent on how well a player's aim is.
True to her bounty hunter character, Freja is also given a trap device called a Bola, which also serves as her ultimate. While it can trap enemies, as expected, it also has an enhanced ability that manages to trap surrounding enemies. Then, it causes an explosion that should affect anyone near the area.
For now, Freja is still in development, so it’s possible that her skills could change by the time Blizzard is ready to have her join the character roster. In the meantime, they’ve also released some concept art for another upcoming hero named Aqua.
Aqua, Water-Wielder
Only concept art has been revealed for incoming hero Aqua, and it’s been revealed that he’s a ‘Chinese water wielder’ who has “one of the most unique ability sets that we’ve ever developed.”
Though players have seen characters control ice in this game, no one has been able to specialize with water so far, and this should allow for Aqua to have some never-before-seen abilities.
Fingers crossed he’s not just Overwatch’s solution to Jeff the Land Shark from Marvel Rivals. Then again, it’s not like Rivals hasn’t been getting abilities from Overwatch and mixing and matching them with their own heroes.
Freja arrives to the game on Season 16, which should take place in the next three months. Overwatch 2 is now available for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4|5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
